NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Satellite imagery is commonly used to gather information and statistics for natural resource management. As an excellent monitoring tool to keep track of environmental analysis, vegetation analysis (tree size & height, canopy cover), crop health, soil analysis and various agricultural activities over time, you can also use it to see current perspectives of large scale activities such as deforestation, logging, wildlife habitat destruction or forest fires for faster and more accurate damage assessments.
By isolating earth data to feature only the terrain model using a DTM, you can quickly and accurately analyse desired details. For example, you can make use of DTM for watershed assessment to identify sinks. This method is much faster than the traditional method of extracting the data from field surveys and maps. DTM can also be used together with a range of datasets, such as NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), soil analysis and satellite imagery for other forestry and agriculture applications.
