URBAN PLANNING
Satellite imagery is an important data collection tool that helps urban planners generates time-series uniform data about many cities in order to make meaningful city comparisons, monitor zoning, analyse land cover and change detection. Uniform satellite data can be incorporated into master plans to aid the communication process among various stakeholders, from the public to developers. High resolution satellite data on road networks and other urban infrastructure can also be imputed into various GIS tools and CAD for large scale mapping creation or updating purposes. Urban planners can also make use of DEM data for other wide range of urban planning purposes such as terrain analysis. While DEM can greatly improve the line-of-sight of an area, DSM can be used to create city modelling and render for visualization purposes.
